2018 Hill Climb Season

Local Hill Climbs 2018

It’s been that time of year where those of a particularly masochistic bent enjoy a ‘short sharp shock’ – yes, the hill climb season is upon us.

Results for the local BCW promoted events are as follows:

20th August – Bigland Hill.  Yes, it is true, some people do choose to sprint up here for ‘pleasure’ – chapeau to you all.

Hill climb specialist Dave Huck (BCW) won the event with a PB and course record, covering the 1.05 mile course with 150m of ascent in 5:12!  Two Lakes RC riders rode the event, with Josh Hartley coming n a great 4th place from the 16 starters, in a time of 6:19.

Sam Stephenson followed closely behind, giving away just 14 seconds to Josh for 6th place – great ride Sam.

27th August – Woodland.  A similar length with just slightly less ascent than Bigland (140m), this event on a damp misty night was won again by Dave Huck, setting another course record of 4:19!

Three Lakes riders took on the challenge, with brothers Tom and Sam Stephenson coming in 5th and 6th places from 20, Tom recording a great time of 5:24, Sam just 6 seconds behind – great ride lads.

Phil Smith recorded a good time of 5:53, not far behind the youngsters, for 10th place.

10th September – Knottallow.  On a dreadful night, with wind and rain aplenty, 18 hardy souls turned up to contest this hill climb, with victory going to… of course, Dave Huck (BCW) with yet another course record of 5:45 for the brutal 12 mile climb.

Two Lakes riders took part in the event, with Sam Stephenson coming a brilliant 2nd place with a time 6:51 – great ride Sam, well done.

Young Leo Law put in  great effort to record a time 9:20 to come in 13th place overall – well done Leo!

Well done to all who took part, these are really tough events!
