A great weekend for the Lakes Road Club with another fantastic win by Brian Pearson and a 3rd place for John McMinn in the 55km Moniavie Wild Hills Race run under TLI rules and promoted by Dumfries CC.
Brian went away on the first climb with one other rider, Ian Archibald from the Johnstone Wheelers, and they worked together, – basically a 2 up TT – for the next 30 miles. Archibald kept attacking on the climbs but Brian hung on and attacked well out, with 8 miles still to go, but got caught by Archibald – the winner of this race for the last two years – who must have been confident and underestimated Bri’s sprinting prowess, as he went on to tow him to the line where Bri took him in the sprint for a well earned victory!
Meanwhile, behind, John McMinn got away from the bunch to take a solo 3rd place around 5 minutes behind.
The final Lakes rider in the race, Derek Leggett, played a team role in the bunch before coming in behind the winners – but as a consolation prize won a new track pump in the raffle at the end, so overall a good day out for all concerned!
Congratulations to all three riders but to Brian in particular for his second win of the season, brilliant, and to John for his first podium.
