Audax
Saturday May 17th -The Lakes School, Windermere They are holding 2 Audax rides on the day, a 100k and a 200k, both of which are quite hilly. Unlike some of the bigger events, this is a low cost, grass roots job. Entry is £7 for non members, £5 for AUKs which includes parking, food and validation by Audax UK. Full details can be seen on the audax calendar, which is found by ‘googling’ Audax UK. Paul Revell said it would be great to see some Furness riders on the day and he thought that there might be a few who would be interested to see what audax riding is all about. Review
Howie, Eamonn and myself rode this event and I have to say it was a great ride. The route takes in some brilliant trails that you would struggle to find yourself. Not an easy peddle, 7000ft of ascent and most of that being off road made for tired legs! We all rode it on cyclocross bikes, but would be interesting to see if it was any easier/more enjoyable on a MTB. Negatively, a £35 entry fee was a bit on the steep side, especially with the HQ being a bit of a damp squib at the end. Saying that, I’d be keen to ride it again next year!
- Singlespeed for Howie, he’s with Ealco, another Policeman with a screw loose..
- Still smiling…
- Thumbs up with 30 miles to go…
- 6 hrs from start to finish
