The 2019 season has kicked off with Lakes RC riders recording some great times.
The Barrow Central Wheelers club events started as usual with the Coast Road 10 on the 3rd April, with 32 riders taking to the start line.
A great start to the season for Kev Chadwick, with a 1st place, starting off his run of top form! Well done Kev! A great time as well, 23:32, closely followed by Kieran Lacey (BCW) in 23:44 and Jonny Hill (BCW) in 24:12.
Chris Anderson recorded a 25:26 for 9th on the night. Sam Step[Henson recorded a creditable 28:06 for 18th place on his road bike.
The final Lakes RC rider was young Leo Law, recording a great time of 33:10 on his road bike, good effort Leo, well done!
The following week saw a repeat of the distance and course with the event being won by Junior rider George Ball (Cycling Performance Squad) in 22:45, just ahead of Kev Chadwick by 5 seconds! Over 30 years in age and just 5 seconds between them!
Jon Brown was the next Lakes RC rider in with a joint 11th place, recording an excellent time of 26:23 on his road bike, with Eamonn Quinn just 13 seconds behind in 14th.
Phil Smith brought his road bike home in 27:43 for 18th, with Josh Murphy just 12 seconds behind him in 21st, with Max Nicholson a mere 10 seconds back for 23rd.
Leo Law put in a storming ride to record a time of 31:00 minutes, a course PB by over 2 minutes! Nice one Leo, great improvement!
Saturday 13th April saw the running of the Barrow Central Wheelers Lakes and Lancs SpoCo 21 mile open time trial on the Coast Road, a tough, lumpy course, made worse by the windy weather conditions.
46 riders took to the start line, and the event was won by Niall Paterson of VC Cumbria in a time of 48:43, with Lakes RC’s own Kev Chadwick coming in a brilliant 2nd place in a time of 49:56. Well done Kev, brilliant result!
Wednesday 17th April saw the BCW midweek club events move to the faster Haverthwaite course. 30 riders took the start, with the faster rider on the night once again by Kev, winning with a time of 21:10, beating 2nd place rider Jonny Hill (BCW) by 55 seconds. What great start to the season Kev is having, well done Kev.
Max Nicholson and Jon Brown also had a great night, Max recording an excellent 23:48 for 8th with Jon just 3 seconds behind for 9th, both recording PB’s and breaking the magic 25 mph barrier – well done lads!
Eamonn Quinn, John Lever and Josh Murphy had a close battle, coming in 13th 14th and 15th places respectively, with times of 24:07, 24:19 and 24:28 – good effort lads!
A great start to the season, well done everyone, especially for Kev who is in amazing form!
