Time Trial Update #8
Slowly catching up on all the Lakes Road Club cycling news!
Cast your minds to the heady summer days of July, and you’ll remember the Inter Club 21 Coast Road event, run by the Barrow Central Wheelers – run on a lovely summer evening with a light breeze, there was a good turn out of 27 for the testing course.
The event was won by Scott Smith with a time (and PB) of 48:37 for the 21 mile course. Second was Lakes RC’s own Kev Chadwick, following closely behind with a great time of 48:54 – great ride Kev!
Chris Anderson was the next Lakes rider home in 5th place with a time of 51:11 – that’s another great ride, followed by Richard Dixon with a time of 55:07 for 11th place and a course PB.
Phil Smith and Ian Barnes duked it out for 15th place, with Phil coming out on top for 15th, in 57:40 with Ian in 16th just over a minute behind. Amy Whelan did a great ride to beat the hour with a 59:30 for 20th place overall and 2nd lady – well done Amy!
Paul Maxwell out a good effort in to come in 24th with a 1:03:52 – nice one Paul!
The 12th July saw the running of a BCW 25 on the Haverthwaite course – a still night saw some great times being set, with Scott Smith (BCW) coming in 1st with a 53:30! The sole lakes RC representative was Chris Anderson who came in a cracking 3rd – well done Chris, with a 55:48 – nice ride Chris!
The following week saw the 10 mile course at Haverthwaite put to use, another good night with the winner this time coming from local rising star Michael Hall (TBW23) winning with a 20:46! From a field of 30. First Lakes rider in was Chris Anderson, making the most of his good form with a 22:10 for 6th place overall – brilliant ride there Chris. Josh Murphy came in with a 24:04 for a PB and 13th place – well done Josh, nice one!
Phil Smith came in 15th place, just 6 seconds behind Josh and only 1 second off 14th, and just holding off Max Nicholson by 3 seconds as well – as ever super tight in that midfield! Bothe riders claimed a PB as well – great rides lads!
A few seconds back, John Lever came in 19th, with a 24:32, just holding off Ian Barnes for 8 seconds who also scored a PB – great ride Ian.
Ian was followed by Amy Whelan who recorded a time of 25:30 for another PB and 2nd lady – well done Amy!
The final Lakes rider across the line was Mike Benson with a time of 26:14 for 24th place – great ride Mike.
The 25th July was the BCW Haverthwaite 20 mile TT, which is actually a tough course – giving the riders the chance to ride the worst parts of the 25 course without the nicer flat bits! Of the 22 starters Dave Huck (BCW) came out on top with a time of 42:01 and a course PB.
3rd place was claimed by Lakes RC’s Kev Chadwick, recording a great time of 44:21 – well done Kev, yet another podium!
