The Lakes Road Club were represented well in the recent TLI National Circuit Championships on the 20th May, which were held at Oulton Park Motor Racing Circuit in Cheshire.
Four Lakes riders took part in the age related events, all acquitting themselves well.
It was an excellent days racing, with over 450 riders from all across the UK taking part, on a hot and sunny day. All the races were run at a fast pace on a very safe and wide circuit, which included a 35mph+ descent and a long drag back up towards the finish line, making for some hard racing.
Kev Chadwick and Derek Leggett rode in the 50+ race. Despite many attempts no one got away and it came down to a bunch gallop on the uphill false flat to the line. Kev did well to get up there amongst the leaders but didn’t have enough of a sprint left to claim a medal, but
managed to finish in an excellent 5th place. Derek rode a strong race throughout and finished well up in the bunch.
Brian Pearson & John McMinn both rode in the 60+ race. John felt good early on and attacked early, riding a few laps off the front before eventually getting caught. After a further flurry of attacks two lads made it stick and kept away to the finish. Despite suffering from a bad chest Brian got away off the front in a group of chasers, who finished the second group on the road, Brian getting a well deserved 7th place. John finished well up in the bunch.
It was a really enjoyable day in the sunshine at a fantastic venue. Anyone considering racing should look out for this one next year.
Great efforts all lads, well done to you all.
