The racers from the Lakes Road Club are on fire at the moment, getting wins and placings over the place – so many we can’t keep track of them!
Brian Pearson 4th at Siddington
Lakes RC veteran rider Brian Pearson got a great 4th place at the LVRC race at the Cheshire Circuit of Siddington in the Steve Gutteridge Memorial Road Race on Sunday 5th May.
Brian and another rider initiated a break after only about 2 miles off the 42 mile race and got a decent gap – unfortunately they got delayed at a road junction and three other riders caught them, creating a break of 5. However, they all worked together to stay away from the pursuing bunch, with the 5 of them contesting the finish.
Brian came 4th in the sprint, with the current National Champion winning the sprint and the ex National Champion in 3rd, so Brain was in excellent company, and got a great result – well done Bri!
Brilliant Maiden Win for Andy Whalley
Also in action on Sunday 5th May were Lakes RC riders Andy Whalley, Kev Chadwick and Joe Richards, riding the Lune RCC promoted Aughton Road Race. Run under British Cycling regulations, this was a 3rd and 4th cat race, run over 8 laps of a 6.3 mile fast rolling course high above the Lune Valley.
Early on a number of riders tried to force a break but on each occasion the bunch reeled them in. Eventually following a fast flowing descent with 2 laps remaining Andy forced a break of 4 riders.
With one lap to go the break was down to 3 and they held off the bunch to the finish with the Lakes RC’s Andy Whalley taking the win.
With Andy in the break Joe & Kev sat in the bunch until the finish, Joe won the bunch sprint for 4th place & Kev was close behind in 8th.
With prizes down to 10th a good result for all three Lakes riders.
And a fantastic day for Andy winning his first RR and gaining his 2nd cat license – brilliant result Andy, I bet you’ll be buzzing off that for ages, and a great result for Joe and Kev as well.
1st Place for Joe Richards at Salt Ayre
Hot off the press, Joe Richard rode and won the 3rd and 4th cat Salt Ayre criterium on Tuesday 7th May. Brilliant ride Joe, well done!
We’ll post more news on all these events as we get it.
Well done lads, great efforts and brilliant results!
More Racers Needed!
There are loads of great events out there, and one of the great organistaioins promopting races is TLI Cycling.
Once again this year they are holding their Closed Circuit National Championships, at Oulton Park, 19th May 2019.
Entries are quite low at the moment and so the TLI has sent out a call for more riders – please see below:
“If anyone is interested this is a great event. Ride in you own age group and great training.
Closed Circuit National Championships, Oulton Park. 19th May 2019.
As of today the number of entries is very disappointing in relation to the amount of money we have committed to the hire of this excellent circuit.
Again I am asking all members to support this prestigious event. ALL entrants are guaranteed a ride.
As with last year, a fast and exciting set of races is a certainty, as the wide smooth circuit virtually guarantees it!
National Championship jerseys and medals will be awarded to all age-related category winners. A great day out is ensured for you and all the family.
Please send your entry to me asap and please also share this message with your friends and any other social media contacts.
Full details of the National Closed Circuit Championships are on the Event Calendar at www.tlicycling.org.uk ”
The TLI events are all age related so suitable for everyone, and Oulton Park is a great place to race, so if you are thinking of racing, this could be a great place to start. You’ll need to join the TLI, but that’s only £13 a year, so relatively inexpensive.
There are already some Lakes RC riders entered into these races, so you;’ll be in good company!
